Colt Single Action Army revolver, .44-40 cal., etched barrel, grey patina finish, wood grips, shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York, NY, January 31, 1880, serial #52124 with factory letter. This uncommonly earlyetched barrel shows traces of original blue and case hardening mixed in with patina with faintly visible frontier 6 shooter etching on left side of barrel, which is there but very light. Some scattered erosion and pinprickpitting, good markings on barrel, patent date and caliber, .44CF stamped at left front of trigger guard bow. The action is good, the bore is fair to good and may clean, front sight is altered slightly, the hammer is thecorrect type. The wood grips are good and fit impeccably with some small losses, minor dings, normal use. A correct and early .44-40 single action. Est.: $3,500-$7,000
