European ax showing armorers mark and engraved designs, circa 16th to 18th century. The cutting edge measures 12-1/4" across edge by nearly 9" from center of hammer portion to edge. The metal is heavilypitted, shows age and use as would be expected. The blade shows remnants of decoration and a well defined deep stamp showing "FP" in a heart shape with deep designs that were all marked when forged.The shaft is a replacement and measures approximately 36".
