^Lot 569 Hans Christian Andersen

Beloved Danish author (1805–1875) best known for such classic fairy tales as The Ugly Duckling, The Red Shoes, and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Exceptional original 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by G. E. Hansen of Copenhagen, showing a full-length image of Andersen seated at a small table, a book in his right hand, inscribed on the reverse in Danish to G. Bentley Esq., and signed “Hans Christian Andersen.” A couple creases and surface impressions to top left corner of image, and a few minor creases and light soiling to reverse, with one crease touching middle name of signature, otherwise fine condition. Andersen is quite uncommon in signed images, particularly of this size, condition, and quality.
