Lot 581 Lord Byron

Highly influential British poet, politician, soldier, and adventurer, sexual and otherwise (1788–1824), who takes a place as the most colorful literary figure of the Romantic era. His works include such classics as Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage and Don Juan. Hand-addressed free frank, measuring 9.5 x 7 overall, with the address panel measuring 6 x 3, addressed by Byron, “London June twenty first, to Mr. Wm. Flatter, Queen Shirt, Oxford,” and franked in the lower left, “Byron,” and stamped “Free” in the upper right. Sheet is affixed to an identical size sheet. Paper loss to top and bottom edge from wax seal, scattered soiling to panel, several folds and creases, and an ink notation to left edge, otherwise very good condition.
