Lot 1059 Elvis Presley
Wine menu cover from the International Hotel, 8 x 10, featuring a full-page image of Elvis on the cover, signed in black ballpoint, “Thank you, Elvis Presley.” In very good condition, with signature and sentiment fairly light, but still legible, a few light bends and creases, lightly trimmed edges, and tape and mounting remnants to reverse. Accompanied by a statement of provenance from the son-in-law of the original recipient. Statement reads, in part: “In 1969 Elvis Presley started his Las Vegas career at the International Hotel…During the same time Franki Valli and the Four Seasons were playing at the Flamingo. My mother-in-law’s cousin Laura was married to band member Joey Long. One night watching one of Elvis’s concerts they were all invited upstairs to meet Elvis. They were so excited they grabbed the nearest thing for his autograph, which was of all things the wine menu for the summer of 1969; they tore it in half and grabbed a pencil from the table and went upstairs and met and hugged Elvis, and stayed with him through the night.” A great memento from Presley’s triumphant return to live performances.
