Lot 1367 George S. Kaufman

Pulitzer Prize–winning American critic, humorist, and playwright (1889–1961) of such classics as You Can’t Take It with You and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Kaufman’s rare yellow AFTRA union P&W benefits card, one page, both sides, 6 x 4, no date. Pension and Welfare benefit card is filled out, most likely in Kaufman’s hand, listing his full name, New York city address, birthdate, and Social Security number. Signed at the bottom in blue ballpoint “George S. Kaufman.” He lists his ex-wife as the recipient of his death benefits. “Deceased” is written across the front of the card in red ballpoint. A couple of office notations, aforementioned “Deceased” notation obscuring parts of the document text, and expected corner wear from handling, otherwise fine condition—the signature area remains clean.
