Notes: During the period of the mid-1970s Middleton was sixty-six and at the peak of his career. The year this work was painted he was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at Ulster Museum, Belfast and Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin hosted by the Arts Council. The Owennamarve River drains a dozen small loughs into the sea south of Dungloe.
