^Lot 518A Original Fremont Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad Silver Plated inaugural spike used at completion

Railroad Silver Plated inaugural spike used at completion of Railroad line from Deadwood to Lead SD. May 18 1902, spikes were placed in pre drilled holes by regional dignitaries and offered to them in brass, plated silver or gold depending on their status. Is estimated to be less then 6 originally issued. This particular spike had been used by owners grandmother in Lead as a door stop for many years. Overall 5 3/4" long, rare piece of railroad history.
