Lot 29 Howard Hughes
Flown red, white, and blue American flag, 12 x 8. This relic is one of the original private US flags that accompanied Hughes on his world-record breaking ‘Around the World Flight’ in July of 1938. Heralding straight from the estate of Alfred I. Lodwick, former Flight Operations Manager for Hughes during his epic journey and founder of Al Lodwick’s Aviation Military Academy in Florida. Hughes entrusted much of his personal aviation collection with Lodwick to display at his School of Aeronautics. In fine condition, with light toning to the white stripes and a central vertical fold. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Walter C. Beckwith stating this item is from the collection of Allbert I.Lodwick, who was the Flight Operations Manager for Hughes for his around the world flight.
