Lot 183 Declaration of Independence: James Smith
Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1719–1806). ADS, one page, 8.25 x 13.25, April 1783. Legal document concerning a case between Abraham Moses, Henry Tome, and Michael Mosser against Smith “to answer James Smith of a plea that they tender him fifty pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania in gold or Silver, which to him they owe.” James’s full signature appears twice in the text, and his last name appears an additional four times. Intersecting folds, tape repair to the reverse of the complete central horizontal fold separation, scattered toning, and a small pencil notation, otherwise very good condition.
