TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, NASA letterhead, stamp-dated October 18, 1962. Letter to the Polodna’s in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In part: “Your letter of congratulations is most appreciated, for to know that people not known to us personally are interested in our recent appointments as astronaut trainees makes us aware of their enthusiasm about the manned space flight program.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one passing through portion of last name of signature, and some light mirroring from stamp date to blank bottom. Armstrong was notified of his selection by Deke Slayton on September 13, 1962, becoming one of only two civilian pilots selected for the second group.
