Lot 876 Jimmie Lunceford
Black band leader who died at 45 in 1947 when he suddenly collapsed; rumors persist that he was poisoned by a racist restaurant owner who was very reluctant to feed his band. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo, signed in fountain pen, “Best wishes, Jimmie Lunceford, 9/30/44.” In very good condition, with tack holes to each corner and scattered creases and surface marks.
