Lot 271 Lakota Sioux Pictorial Model Tipi
89” x 44” late 19th century, muslin and pigments of red, blue, yellow and brown paint. A father’s war exploits drawn in beautiful ledger art across the tipi surface by an unknown Sioux artist. 8 mounted warriors in full headdress. A tipi this size would have been a toy for a small child or for a collector wanting beautiful American Indian art during the early reservation period. Objects such as this tipi were a valuable source of income to Indian artists. Mounted on museum quality stretchers for hanging.
