Lot 225 Elizabethan Costume with Lace Accents
Rose-colored Elizabethan tunic and pants, having glass buttons down the front and a white lace collar which has become discolored with age. Two drawstrings attach the tunic at the top. The pants have velvet drawstrings at their ankles and features a red rose motif at their bottoms. Costume is of the highest quality and is satin lined throughout. Both the tunic and pants have a United Costumers label sewn into their linings, with the word "Lancaster" handwritten on them. A Warner Bros.-issued hangtag attributes the costume to Burt Lancaster but this is not guaranteed to be the case. Possibly made for a film depicting the Wars of Roses, in which the House of Lancaster was represented by a red rose. Costume dates from the 1930s or 1940s.
