Envelope Address in the Hand of "William H Seward"Plaque reads "William H Seward, Sec US" 1801-1872, Secretary of State in the administration of Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson, Negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867 for $7,200,000. Theallege envelope, along with a photograph of William Seward is beautifully framed in a presentation style frame. The envelope (6.5x3.25) is addressed in Seward's own hand to Ansell James, NY, postmarked Washingtonwith "Free" circular stamp. Envelope has minor browning and creases. This piece includes provenance from the George Fleharty Collection and a certificate of authenticity from Christopher Stickel.
