The first self-propelled fire-fighting unit in the State of Texas was purchased by the City of Big Spring in 1909 (per A History of Texas & Texas by Frank Johnson, Chicago American Historical Society, 1916, 2178 pps.) Howard County records show purchase in 1908, Thomas Flyer fire engine, hose wagon and chemical engine at a cost of $6,600. Wyatt Eason shown in photograph. This original photograph measures 9-1/2" x 7-3/4".
