Lot 97 An Important Chinese Stucco Polychrome Seated Buddha

Yuan to Ming Dynasty, Ca. 14th to 16th Century AD. A large and impressive serene figure seated in a meditative posture with legs crossed and wearing flowing priest-like robe open at neck. Left arms slightly raised in meditation pose (right hand gone) and with heavy drapery creases, his separately made head with tight hair nodes and elongated ear lobes. Overall greenish, black, and white surface pigment remaining. 22? (56cm) H, missing hand, one with repairs, head repairs, head reattached, painted surface pigment visible but worn as is moulded details, age wear, as is. Rare and impressive in person.

Provenance: Ex. Collection of a prominent New England family. Maryland Dentist after that.
