Lot 104 A Chinese Tang Dynasty Sancai Glazed Pouring Vessel
Rare form! China, Tang Dynasty, 618-907 AD. A sancai glazed pottery pouring vessel; demonstrates the highly-desired three-glaze technique, which inspired early Islamic splashed ware. While the three-color glaze may have inspired Islamic potters, the askos' shape was actually inspired by earlier Western or West Asian (Sassanian, Byzantine, Roman?) forms. 4"L spout to tail x 3-1/2 H, intact/excellent condition.
