^Lot 167 A Mumuye Miniature Wood Figure

Northern Nigeria, mid 20th century. Unusual for its size, this charming abstract figure typically found much larger, stands with parallel legs rising to curved hips, long narrow torso with protruding navel, small relief breasts, and bent arms hovering close to body. The head bears crest and dangling open square ears, with incised facial detail and crosshatching on hair. Traces of red deposits, lightly encrusted surface. Minor abrasions. 11” H, repair intact and includes custom mount.

Provenance: Ex Michael Oliver, NY, acquired 30 years ago.
