Mexico, dated “Agosto 20 de 1896.” Oil on metal. With an inscription reading "San Francisco de Paula Fundadory confesor" this delightful painting is published in Saints and Sinners. Curious how it was used to practice penmanship. Houses and people in background resemble those depicted in de Leon's legendary ex-votos. If one travels to his hometown of Totatiche, Jalisco, one can still see these distinctive simple geometric adobe structures. 10” x 7”, excellent condition.
