Lot 743 Original publicity photo with hand-painted cels from Ed Sullivan’s Toast of the Town
(Walt Disney Studios, 1953) Unusual publicity photo of Walt Disney and Ed Sullivan with a circa 1953 Lincoln from a Toast Of The Town (later re-named the Ed Sullivan Show) episode devoted to “The Walt Disney Story.” “The Walt Disney Story” aired on February 8, 1953. In the episode, Sullivan chronicles the history of the Disney Studios up to that point as the company celebrated Mickey Mouse’s 25th birthday and the release of Peter Pan. Special filmed segments take place at the Burbank Studio. Sullivan is shown driving up to the front security kiosk and in his narrative immediately launches into a three-minute commercial for the 1953 Lincoln. He then has an encounter with a Donald Duck doll and discusses the new Peter Pan movie. Cels of Donald Duck, Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell have been trimmed to image and applied to the photo. The entire piece measures 13 ½ in. x 11 in. Some Staining throughout.
