Lot 901 Original production background and production overlay with studio recreated cel from The Lion King
(Walt Disney Studios, 1994) Original hand-painted production background with matching studio recreated cel of Simba from The Lion King. Although no hand-painted production cels were used during the production of The Lion King, they did use hand-painted production backgrounds. Shortly after the end of production, the studio selected a grouping of the production backgrounds, created the matching cels from the original drawings and offered them for sale through auction. Although it was sold over 17 years ago, very little of the artwork has resurfaced. This particular piece is still in the original presentation mat, with a mat opening of 14 ½ in. x 11 in. Simba measures 6 ½ in. x 4 ½ in.
