Lawyer and statesman (1820–1891) who served as a Union general during the Civil War. ALS signed “Chas Devens,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, November 15, 1886. In part: “I do not see how it is possible for me to be in Worcester…on the account of a family gathering. If it is possible I will come for I have the greatest regard and respect for the memory of dear young Grant.” In fine condition, with a paperclip impression to top edge.
