British commander (1708–1798) best rememberd for commanding the 1761 expedition that captured Bell Isle. Manuscript DS, signed “S. Hodgson,” one page, 8 x 12.5, June 30, 1761. British military warrant for subsistence pay. In part: “I do hereby direct and require that out of the Treasure in your hands for the use of the Forces under my Command you do advance without deduction unto Lieutenant George King of His Majesty's Ninetieth Regiment of Foot Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Commandant Hugh Morgan, the Sum of Six Hundred and Thirty four Pounds Five Shillings Ster. Value upon account of the Subsistence of this said Regiment.” In very good condition, with small separations along intersecting folds, partial separation to hinge, and some light rippling and toning.
