Lot 561 James R. Randall
Writer best remembered as the lyricist of the song, ‘Maryland, My Maryland.’ Scarce AQS on an off-white 7 x 8.75 lightly-lined sheet, signed at the conclusion, “James R. Randall.” Randall pens the second stanza of his nine-stanza poem, “Maryland! My Maryland!” In full, “Hark to an exiled son’s appeal, Maryland! My Mother-State, to thee I kneel, Maryland! For life and death, for woe and weal, Thy peerless chivalry reveal, And gird thy beauteous limbs with steel, Maryland! My Maryland!” Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a light diagonal crease, and a mild shade of toning, otherwise fine condition.
