Lot 564 Norman Rockwell

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, February 11, 1963. Letter to a woman who asked Rockwell to critique a youngster’s art work. In part: “You ask me something which is very difficult, and I am afraid impossible. That is to judge a young person’s work or advising about entering the art field without knowing him personally. One thing is certain. Although copying is of course natural to the young it proves in no way any creative ability. So if the work is a copy of a photograph or other artist’s work, there is no way to judge the creative ability which is so essential. My suggestion is that the young man should submit his work to some good art school.” In fine condition, with a bit of trivial soiling and some light wrinkling. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
