Postmaster general in the Harding administration (1879–1954) who later headed the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, in which capacity he oversaw enforcement of the notorious ‘Production Code’ that imposed strict censorship guidelines on all Hollywood films for decades. TLS signed “Will H. Hays,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Motion Picture Producers & Distributors of America, Inc. letterhead, July 31, 1925. Short letter to Jimmy Starr and Cinematters. In full: “During my visit here I have been seeing with interest and appreciation your clever ‘Cinematters.’ This is splendid. This constructive help is thoroughly appreciated.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and mild toning, heavier to edges.
