Lot 50240 Lot of 10 Vintage "What's New, Mr. Magoo?" Original UPA Animation Production Cels (PA LOA)
This lot includes 10 original hand-painted animation production cels from What's New, Mr. Magoo? Each cel is a one-of-a-kind piece which was used in the production of an original Mr. Magoo cartoon. What's New, Mr. Magoo was produced in the 1970s. 12.5 x 10.25" in size and has 3 peg holes at the bottom of the cel. The cels are clear and photographed on a white background. Each cel also has markings on the bottom right used by the animators for production purposes. Cels from Mr. Magoo are extremely rare!
Mr. Magoo is a cartoon character created at the UPA animation studio in 1949. Voiced by Jim Backus, Quincy Magoo is a wealthy, short-statured retiree who gets into a series of comical situations as a result of his nearsightedness, compounded by his stubborn refusal to admit the problem. However, through uncanny streaks of luck, the situation always seems to work itself out for him, leaving him no worse than before.
Affected people (or animals) consequently tend to think that he is a lunatic, rather than just being nearsighted. In later cartoons he is also an actor, and generally a competent one except for his visual impairment.
In 2002, TV Guide ranked Mr. Magoo number 29 on its '50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time' list.
For authenticity purposes, this lot includes an authentication guarantee and LOA from Pristine Auction.
