Gene Wilder as Wonka to unlock the doors to gain access to his top secret Invention Room. Crafted of metal painted
gold, the key measures 14 in. long. The oval metal handle in the back turns a central shaft mounted to a gear, which
turns two fl anking gears. In this scene of the fi lm, Wilder pulls the key out of his jacket pocket, fi ts the two attached
skeleton keys in their slanted keyholes and cranks the handle of the key repeatedly as he welcomes the party to his
Invention Room (speaking German!). Then, returning to English, Wonka continues, “Now remember, no messing
