SUSANNAH YORK “LARA” COSTUME FROM SUPERMAN:THE MOVIE - (Warner Bros., 1978) This is the incredible costume worn by Susannah York in her key role as Lara, mother of Superman. The two-piece costume consists of
tunic, with faux jewel detailing around the collar, and pants each layered with a luminous silver/gray re ective material, which appears to glow when, subjected to strong light. This ingenious costume e ect was rst innovated in this production and used on all of the planet Krypton inhabitants providing a fantastic, otherworldly appearance. Both tunic and pants have Bermans and Nathans labels typewritten “Susannah York Superman”. The role York plays, as Lara
is a very important and memorable one, being Superman’s mother and playing opposite Marlon Brando as “Jor-El”. Due to the nature of construction, the costume exhibits areas of wear, but these do not detract from its overall appearance. An iconic, instantly recognizable costume; a wonderful piece of Superman history.
