^Lot 294 Book Press c1860 - General Americana

This choice small, hand-turn wheel (screw) book press is marked "T. Shriver & Co., New York, Pat. June 13, 1865 - Aug 6" and marked "1" possibly in reference to size, perhaps their smallest model. The press is generally in pristine condition, with original black paint and ornate, hand painted gold trim. Shriver & Co. was a well established family in New York prior to 1870. They began manufacturing presses of all sorts in the mid 1860s and by 1875 were listed in the Trow New York City Directory as the only manufacturers of "presses". 10" x 16" x 12". - Maish Collection
