Reported to be a Wells-Fargo Strong Box, when in actuallity, it is an assayers case, with removable trays for chemicals. Approx. 12" x 6" x 6.5". Leather-bound, leather hinged lid with keyed locking device, wrapped around riveted metal box construction. Inner pull-out metal trays, 1 open for bills, and 1 divided tray, 4-compartments for coins. Both 3" deep. Exterior worn, shows former wrap-around points for strapping. Patent date is March 1869. - Maish Collection
