^Lot 450 Defiance Mining Company Stock CA - Darwin,1875 - General Americana

Measures 9.25” x 4” Incorporated Aug. 14, 1875. No. 186, issued to P.T. Colby on December 10, 1875 for 500 shares. Signed by secretary and president. There is some wear, creases are present and there are some minor stains. This was from the Coso Mining District and was owned by Pat Reddy. Reddy moved to California to strike it rich in 1861. He found work mining and gambling until 1864 when he was injured in Virginia City and suffered the loss of his arm. After this incident, Reddy took up law and soon became one of the most well known criminal lawyers in the state of California [Ref: California Desperadoes, William Secrest, 2000, pp 226-227].
