Lot 472 Mt. Lassen Eruption Photograph CA - Mt. Lassen,General Americana
"No. 24 Mount Lassen in Eruption" copyright 1914 by P.J. Thompson Susanville, Cal. After 27,000 years of inactivity, the southernmost volcano in the Cascade Range burped steam on May 30, 1914. Eruptions continued until 1917, including "The Great Explosion," of May 22, 1915 which was seen for 150 miles and spread ash as far as Winnemucca, Nevada. 10" x 7.75" mounted on cardboard mat. Good focus, fair contrast. Several staining spots are a small distraction to an historic photograph. P.J. Thompson's studio was on Gay Street in Susanville until 1924. - Jacobitz Collection
