Lot 592 Butterfield Mail Enamel Spoon MO - Tipton,Moniteau County - General Americana
This dainty, 4.5" spoon features vibrant enamel work on the spoon and handle: a vignette of "THE FIRST BUTTERFIELD MAIL FOR THE PACIFIC/ LEAVES TIPTON, MISSOURI SEPT. 16TH. 1858.", and, a portrait of John Butterfield with "GREAT SOUTHERN OVERLAND 1858 JOHN BUTTERFIELD 1861" around the edge of the portrait. The rear of the spoon handle bears an "ALBERT H. CECHSLE/ JEFFERSON CITY, MO." maker's mark and "STERLING" "MADE IN GERMANY" stamps.
