Samuel Platt was born in Carson City in 1874 and died in Reno in 1964. He was state assemblyman from 1901-1905 and U.S. Attorney for Nevada in 1906, appointed by Theodore Roosevelt, and again in 1910 by William H. Taft. He owned the Reno Evening Gazette from 1915-1922, and the Carson City Gazette 1922-1930. This ceremonial sash reflects the highest degree Samuel Platt attained in the Carson City freemason organization and has been deemed authentic by a current member.
