^Lot 1587 J. W Ivie's Saloon Token with "Old Abe" the Eagle UT - Saloon

Obverse, GF 1 drink or cigar. Reverse, the image of 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment Company C’s mascot “Old Abe.” During the American Civil War, Company C bought the eagle from a local farmer and named him after the Union President Abe Lincoln. The bald eagle was brought to battles and stood for a symbol of Union pride. The Confederate Army often tried to capture the eagle, but their efforts proved fruitless. After the war, "Old Abe" found a home at the Wisconsin State Capitol, but still kept busy making guest appearances at public events. A fire at the capital took the life of "Old Abe", but the image of the eagle is still remembered even today. "Old Abe" can still be seen as the insignia of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division [Ref: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/civilwar/stories/004512.asp].
