Mexican War-Era U.S. Springfield Model 1847 Percussion Cavalry Musketoon, NVSN, .69 cal., 26" round barrel without sights, marked "V/P/(eagle head)" and "1851" at breech; beveled lockplate has "(spread-wing eagle holding olive branches)" over "US" ahead of hammer, Spring/Field/1853" vertically behind; brass fittings are 2-pc. trigger guard, straight buttplate marked "U.S." at top, sideplate, 2 bands (front of the double-strap type with integral sight); steel 9.25" sling bar/ring at left, stirrup-retained button-tip ramrod. Oil-finished walnut fullstock. Mfg'd ca. 1848-59, in approx. 6000 qty. Condition is very good showing cleaned bright finishes, sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound with "J.P.F." carved at right, mild marks, added varnish. Action is strong and crisp, bore shows light to moderate etching and good rifling. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)
