Civil War Burnside Breechloading Percussion Carbine, 5th Type, #10468, .54 cal., 21" round barrel marked "Cast Steel 1864" and "H", with standard carbine sights; receiver with curved trigger guard/operating lever, marked "Burnside's Patent/Model 1864/10468" at front and several inspectors' marks, has sling ring/bar at left; back-action lock and military hammer are both marked "H". Oil-stained walnut forend has single band, matching buttstock with 2 "G.C." cartouches of Inspector George Curtis at left wrist has semi-crescent buttplate (marked "C"), swivel at belly. Mfg'd 1864. Condition is fine retaining good traces of blue, mostly silvered case colors, else smooth gray/brown gunmetal with sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound and smooth (.75" ding at forend) with a large "A" carved at right, clear cartouches, pleasing added oil finish. Action is crisp, bore is bright with sharp rifling.
