Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Remington Rolling Block Single-Shot Infantry Rifle, NVSN, .50 CF cal., 36" barrel with standard sights (front doubles as bayonet lug) is unmarked; auto-extraction receiver is marked "Remington's Patent" + 1864-68 pat. dates in 2 lines at top tang, "Model 1871" at left side, "(federal eagle)/U.S./Springfield/1872" right side. Oil-finished 2-pc. walnut fullstock has oval "ESA" (Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin) cartouche at left wrist, 2 bands (top with swivel), nosecap, slotted/grooved ramrod, curved buttplate marked "US". Mfg'd 1871-72. Condition is very good showing toned gray gunmetal, traces of case colors, sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound with sharp cartouche, scattered marks, shallow scrape at left butt, smooth finish. Action is crisp, bright bore shows light frosting at muzzle, fine rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500.
