Lot 56 Civil War Starr Breechloading Percussion Carbine
Civil War Starr Breechloading Percussion Carbine, NVSN, .54 cal., 21" round barrel with standard carbine sights, marked "Starr Arms. Co. Yonkers, N.Y." at top and "H.G.S." at left; receiver marked "Starr's Patent/Sept. 14th, 1858" at breech has sling ring at left, serpentine trigger guard/operating lever; back-action lock is marked "Starr Arms Co./Yonkers, N.Y." behind military hammer. Oil-finished walnut forend has single spring-retained brass band, matching buttstock a brass crescent buttplate marked "B" at top. Mfg'd ca. 1862-65. Condition is very good retaining no original finishes, being gray/brown gunmetal having scattered oxidation with small areas of pitting, good markings, age-toned brass. Stocks are sound showing a large "X" carved at left, age/use marks (heavier on forend with 1.5" crack at nose). Action is crisp, bright bore shows scattered light erosion at muzzle, sharp rifling.
