Scarce Allen & Wheelock Breechloading Single-Shot "Falling-Block" Rifle, #315, .44 RF cal., 26" round/octagonal barrel marked "Allen & Wheelock/Allen's Pat. Sept. 18, 1860" on top flat; large iron receiver has trigger guard/operating lever, elevation-adjustable rear sight with preset frame detents. Walnut screw-retained forend and matching buttstock with curved buttplate having butt trap for cleaning rod (not present). Mfg'd 1860-70s, in just 1,500-2,000 qty. Condition is good, the blue/brown barrel with perhaps traces of original finish, receiver gray gunmetal, discoloration to buttplate. Edges and markings are very good, stocks are sound with light marks and added varnish. Action does not hold cock but is smooth, bore shows moderate roughness and good rifling. Est.: $600-$800.
