Frontier-Era Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" Saddle-Ring Carbine, 3rd Type, #102086, .44 CF cal., 20" round barrel, full-length magazine beneath retained by clamping band with integral front sight; distinctive brass receiver has removable sideplates, brass cartridge lifter. Oil-finished walnut forend retained by a single clamping band, matching buttstock with brass crescent buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1872 in .44 rimfire cal. with blued barrel/mag, case hardened lever/hammer, bright brass; later altered to centerfire, perhaps in Mexico/South America. Condition is good retaining no original finish or barrel markings, being dark brown steel with overall light peppering; cleaned brass shows light toning. Stocks are sound showing wear and light marks, 3" wood repairs at both sides of top tang and toe of buttstock, which appears to have been spliced in two halves and fits a bit loose. Rear sight is a replacement, saddle ring/stud are missing. Action is crisp, bore shows overall dark etching, good rifling. Est.: $3,500-$4,500. (Antique)
