^Lot 146 Antique Springfield Model 1896 Krag Bolt Action Carbine

Antique Springfield Model 1896 Krag Bolt Action Carbine, #78974, .30-40 cal., 22" barrel, blued finish, walnut stock set, blade front sight with attached hood and Model 1896 carbine rear sight with leaf graduated to 2000 yards and marked with a "C" in the upper right corner. Sling bar with sliding ring is attached to left-side forend above trigger guard. Marked on left-side receiver "U.S./MODEL 1896./SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." There is a faint unreadable boxed cartouche on the left side of the wrist behind the sling bar mount and a "(circle)/P" firing proof on the underside of the stock wrist. Mfg'd 1897.  Condition overall is very good. Metal retains approx. 80% finish with flaking to the magazine and other parts toning to a plum color. There is a spliced wood repair to the right-side forend behind the box magazine. Wood appears to have added finish applied, now very good, showing dents and impressions to the dark finish. Action and box magazine operate smoothly; bore has frosting in the grooves, otherwise clean with fair to good rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
