^Lot 428 Italian Model 38S Carcano Bolt Action Carbine

Italian Model 38S Carcano Bolt Action Carbine, #6283, 8x57mm, 17.7" barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock set, inverted "V" front sight and fixed "V"-notched rear sight. Cleaning rod mounted under barrel. Marked on top of barrel shank "(crown)/RE/TERNI"; right side with the Fascist "1941 XIX". Carbine was converted to 8x57mm and is marked "7.9" on the rear sight with a large "S" on top of the receiver ring, which has also been modified by relieving a half-moon shape at the rear to accommodate the longer cartridge. Faint matching serial number stamped on left-side buttstock. Condition overall is very good with the metal retaining approx. 95% of its refinished bluing. Stock has an arsenal repair at the buttplate tang and there is a crack to the top of the hand guard. Wood has been sanded and varnished to a blond color, now showing light handling marks. Action operates smoothly, bright bore is excellent with well-defined rifling. No visible import marks. Est.: $400-$600. (C&R)
