Antique Indian Cavalry-Marked Military-Style British SXS Percussion Shotgun, NVSN, 10/10 ga., 20.75" round twist barrels have post front and folding-leaf rear sights along wide top rib marked "13" at breech, and a 5-digit perhaps unit designation in Gujarati (Sanskrit-like) writing hand-punched at left; a single lower rib pipe retains the button-head stirrup-type ramrod; both back-action locks are marked "Swinburn & Son/1857", with outside hammers. Varnished rosewood-grain halfstock has splinter-style forend, trigger guard with rear finger-grip, marked "10/13" above the 4" round-door patch box, "19" at left, has shotgun buttplate marked "Scinde/Irregular/Horse" at top. Condition is very good, being gray gunmetal having scattered light oxidation, sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound and smooth with minimal marks, pleasing grain and color, thin later varnish. Actions are very strong, bores show light erosion. Raised in then-British Colonial India in 1839 to protect trade routes along the Indus River, the regiment was named the Scinde Irregular Horse in 1846. Est.: $1,500-$1,800. (Antique)
