Antique Peabody Breechloading Carbine, by Providence (RI) Tool Co., NVSN, .50 RF cal., 20" round barrel, block-blade front and single-leaf rear sights; 4" receiver marked only "E" at top has serpentine trigger guard/operating lever, 5.25" back-action lockplate with military hammer, left-side sling ring/mount. Oil-finished forend has a single spring-retained band (marked "N"), matching buttstock with carbine buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1866-71. Condition is good retaining no original finishes, being bright metal lacking all markings due to removal of heavy pitting. Buttstock shows 4" crack at left forward of buttplate, 3" crack behind lock, forend with 4.75" filler at former ramrod channel, both with dings from age and military use but sound. Action is crisp, bore shows overall light etching and fine rifling. Scarce, as most were sold to foreign militaries. Est.: $900-$1,200. (Antique)
