Civil War Sharps New Model 1859 Percussion Carbine, Altered with Rifle Barrel, #56013, .52 cal., 29.25" round barrel with standard sights, marked "Sharps Rifle/Manufg. Co./Hartford, Conn." ahead of rear sight and "New Model 1859" behind; "Straight Breech" receiver has integral pellet primer at back-action lock with standard Sharps and Lawrence markings, "C. Sharps' Pat./Sept. 12th, 1848" at left, serpentine trigger guard/operating lever. Oil-finished walnut carbine forend is retained by a single spring-held band, buttstock with semi-crescent buttplate and no patchbox has matching arsenal-quality wood filler where carbine sling ring/bar were originally mounted. Mfg'd early 1860s. Condition is good as configured, the barrel lightly-oxidized gray/brown gunmetal having good factory lettering (shows marks from alteration), balance of the metal generally oxidized gray with fine markings. Stocks are sound and smooth with a "ghost" of oval inspector's cartouche at left wrist, added varnish. Action is smooth, bore shows oxidation, deep and sharp rifling. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)
