Indian Wars-Era Evans Lever Action Military Carbine, New Model, NVSN, .44 CF cal., 22" tapered round barrel marked "Evans Repeating Rifle Mechanic Falls ME U.S.A. Pat. Dec. 8, 1868 & Sep. 16, 1871" in 1 line, with tall blade front and 3.5" sliding-leaf rear sights; large 18.5" receiver has integral 28-round magazine loaded thru port in butt, right-side ejection port, serpentine trigger guard/operating lever, under-hammer. Oil-finished walnut forend retained by single band with sling swivel, matching 2-pc. buttstocks with curved buttplate and swivel at belly. Mfg'd ca. 1877-79, in approx. 4,000 qty. Condition is good, the barrel with heavy erosion at midpoint largely obscuring factory markings, receiver with 75% original blue, scattered discoloration, .5" left scrape. Stocks are sound (forend a well-made replacement) showing dings, 4" crack at right lower buttstock, shallow loss at toe.
