Antique Winchester-Hotchkiss Bolt Action Saddle-Ring Carbine, 2nd Type, #6536, .45-70 CF cal., 24" round barrel, pinned block-blade front and wind gauge rear sight; long receiver marked "6536" and "HN" at left rail, maker's name, address and 1860-1877 patent dates in 3 lines at left, has 7" sliding bolt with knurled rear knob, rear safety at top left, mag. cutoff at right. Oil-finished walnut halfstock has internal magazine, steel trigger guard and buttplate, nickeled nosecap with door to 2-pc. cleaning rod (present). Mfg'd early 1880s. Condition is good retaining traces of original blue, darkened case colors, fine edges and markings. Stock is sound and smooth with usual use marks (.625" wood loss at forend), 5.5" repaired crack at right-rear receiver. Bolt is smooth. action is crisp, bore shows moderate erosion, good rifling.
